Beholder 2 is nothing if not ambitious, even from the get-go.Its opening scene sets the stage for a cinematic tragedy that springs the plot into motion. Evan Redgrave, the distant son of a prominent Ministry official, comes to fill a post at the shadowy Ministry and discover the truth of his father’s legacy. Overall, Beholder 2 was an interesting game that made it so easy to be completely wrapped up in both the characters and the story. The controls hinder the experience a bit on the Xbox platform, but the quality of the game itself more than makes up for it. Beholder 2 PS4 Review. Summary: A bleak dystopian murder mystery where every choice can harbor a myriad of dire consequences
Having never played Beholder One, I was instantly awestruck by the unique and wonderful graphics and art style of Beholder Two. This game is beautiful, the artwork is breathtaking, the narrative is satirical and humorous, and the ominous soundtrack sets the atmosphere well for a dark and unnerving narrative-noir platform adventure.
Visualdesigner pro 4 4. As the game begins, you find yourself in the shoes of Evan Redgrave, recently employed by a shadowy communist ministry in the wake of your father’s death. As the first scenes unravel, it becomes apparent that your father was a prominent government official, and his death was no accident. But in a bleak dystopian world of shadows, lies, and deceit… Who can you trust?
Your first day at work sees you dealing with people’s complaints and processing them on your computer terminal, ensuring that they reach the right factions and ministry officials. The dialogue is witty, dark, and depressing, with oppression, jealousy, and the backstabbing that you’d expect was around in the Soviet-era all prominent throughout the game.
Evan is a bland and generic character that trudges through life at your command. The gameplay is quirky; there are plenty of twists and turns. It reminded me that although the western world is far from perfect at the minute, there are still places in society where people have very little freedom, and must spy on one another to remain socially, financially, and physically secure.
An ominous ‘Great Leader rules the fictitious state that Beholder 2 takes place in.’ Censorship, executions, shortages, and the threat of war are part of the daily grind for Evan. It’s your job to help him climb the ladder as quickly as possible. You can do this by acting as cruel as you like to his comrades, competitors, allies, and enemies as you make a multitude of choices throughout this ten-hour narrative.
Will you become a responsible and respected officer decorated by the Wise Leader himself? Or perhaps an irresponsible careerist hard set on destroying anyone who stands in your way? Or maybe you’ll stir the pot throughout the game, mentally torturing as many competitors as possible? If your inner-sociopath is smiling now, I would head straight over to the Playstation Store and pre-order this title at its pre-launch rate.
In a state where employees that fail to perform are launched into a paper shredder, merely stamping a letter in a certain way can see Evan send a citizen to face the firing squad. Civil rights are none existent, everybody is out for themselves, and you’ll meet plenty of interesting and mean characters as you climb the corporate ladder.
Although I found the story interesting, I found the workplace tasks repetitive and annoying at times. The game can feel slow-paced, although the story does move on reasonably quickly. My only other complaint would be the sticky controls on the PS4. It just didn’t seem smooth enough as I tried to interact with other characters and navigate my way throughout the games rooms and buildings.
Beholder 2 Ios Review
For all intent and purposes, Warm Lamp games have done a fantastic job with reinventing and upgrading Beholder 2 compared to its prequel. You constantly feel pressure to pay bills, buy items, and have spare cash to bribe officials when you are caught being devious.
Final Thoughts:
If you love unique graphics, Orwellian or Soviet-era literature, dark comedy, and torturing your co-workers, then Beholder Two will keep you entertained for a good 10-15 hours. The pre-order price is excellent at around $20 for PS Plus members and $25 for non-members.
There are plenty of choices to be made, meaning you could complete this game several times and see many different narratives and outcomes. All in all, the game feels fresh, unique, and is compelling enough to keep someone with an attention span as short as mine entertained for hours at a time.

Note to players: grab a sweater because Beholder 2 is sure to bring some chills. With the wicked, monochrome graphics and even darker themes, players will without a doubt feel as if they have been thrown into a dystopian world of shadows and mystery. Recently released for PC, Warm Lamp Games’ new adventure game Beholder 2 is strategic, intriguing, and even a bit melodramatic. The creeping sensations and constant fear The Wise Leader instills upon you is enough to make your skin crawl and if you aren’t fearful now, you will be by the end of the game! The feeling of the panoptic eye brings forth the looming question, are you brave enough to reach the top and bring light to the darkness?
After a brief intro where players learn their father has been killed, they are introduced to their new life of work at the Ministry. This work, though entertaining to the player, is designed to appear tedious and oppressive to their character. The remedial task of answering to other’s and submitting requests makes the player feel even more subservient in this already tyrannical world and there is a desire to move up the ladder and make change however that is easier said than done. Furthermore, players are only allotted a certain amount of time per day to fulfill their duties and perform any leisurely activities they may desire. While at first I found this difficult, as time went on, I began to find my footing and get used to managing my time. It is vital that players pay attention to their clock and do not get caught up in earning money or socializing. While it is crucial to earn money so you can pay bills, nothing is worse than running out of time and being unable to complete your daily tasks. For instance, considering the time it takes to wait in line, interact with other characters, or read books at the end of the day to earn experience is monumental to a player’s success in the game so do not get caught up in the greed!
Like real life, players work because they must pay for things like rent, electricity, and other necessities which can become extremely expensive quite quickly. To earn enough money players must perform their daily tasks… perfectly. To do this, players should look for patterns in the way their visitors ask them questions, declare issues, or present information. For instance, players will find there are significant differences in complaints and denunciations. While complaints tend to lie within the community, denunciations tend to rest upon someone’s character. If players can notice small details like this, it will ensure they receive money for their hard work. So, consider your choices carefully they might just link up!
Overall, Beholder 2 is a well-constructed game. From dialogue to gameplay, Warm Lamp Games has really hit the nail on the head when constructing this thrilling new strategy game. Without sparing any gruesome details, the execution of an omnipresent, dystopian society is certainly evident. The monochrome graphics, raw language, and violence frame Beholder 2 as one of the most entertaining yet oppressive adventure games in a while. If you aren’t afraid of the unknown and willing to witness what lies within the darkness, try Beholder 2, perhaps you may rise to the top.
